Privacy Policy.

Last updated: May 12, 2026

MIA (“we,” “us,” or “our”) builds live language-access infrastructure for institutions and communities. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect through trymia.app, our pilot program, and the MIA mobile app, how we use it, and the choices you have. We are a pre-launch company and our data practices are intentionally minimal.

Information we collect

We collect only the information you choose to give us.

From pilot applicants (trymia.app)

  • Pilot application data you submit through our form: organization name, contact name and role, email address, location, languages your community speaks, and a description of a typical event.
  • Basic technical metadataattached to that submission, such as your browser's user-agent string, used to debug submissions and prevent abuse.
  • Email correspondence you send us at contact@trymia.app or in reply to messages from our team.

From MIA mobile app users

When you download the MIA app from the Apple App Store and create an account, we collect:

  • Account information — your name and email address from your Google Sign-In, used to identify you in the app and personalize your experience.
  • Profile preferences — your spoken language, interests (community, business, cultural, educational, civic, faith categories), and city — used to surface relevant events near you.
  • Event participation — events you save, attend, or listen to within the app, used to provide personalized recommendations.

Permissions you control

  • Microphone access— when you participate in a MIA-enabled event as a listener, the app requests microphone permission solely to capture the speaker's audio for real-time translation. We do not record or store this audio.
  • Location access (optional) — you can grant approximate location to discover events near you, or manually enter your city instead. Your precise GPS coordinates are never sent to our servers.
  • Push notifications (future)— we may ask permission to notify you about events you've saved or new events in your community. You can revoke this at any time in your device settings.

We do not use third-party advertising trackers, social media pixels, or session-replay tools. We use privacy-respecting, cookie-less analytics to count page views in aggregate.

How we use your information

  • To evaluate pilot applications and respond within five business days.
  • To coordinate onboarding and pilot logistics with selected partners.
  • To provide live translation at MIA-enabled events you choose to attend.
  • To personalize event recommendations in the mobile app based on your stated interests, language, and city.
  • To improve MIA based on aggregate usage patterns across the categories, languages, and event types our users and applicants engage with.
  • To communicate with you about events, your account, or service updates.
  • To meet legal obligations and protect MIA, our partners, and their participants.

We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it with advertisers.

Live event audio and translations

During a live event, MIA processes speech in real time to produce translations for listeners. By default, audio is processed on the fly and discarded — we do not retain recordings of your events. If a pilot partner explicitly opts in to recording (for example to review accuracy on specialized vocabulary), we will say so in writing and you can revoke that opt-in at any time. Translations stream to listeners during the event and are not persisted on our servers beyond the active event session.

Service providers

We use a small number of trusted service providers to operate MIA. These providers process information on our behalf under standard data-processing agreements and are contractually prohibited from using your data for their own purposes. All providers are located in the United States and are bound by industry-standard security practices.

The categories of service providers we use include:

  • Cloud database and infrastructure providers that store pilot applications, mobile-app accounts, profiles, and event metadata.
  • Speech recognition services that convert live event audio to text in real time. Audio is processed in transit and not retained.
  • AI translation services that translate speaker text into listener languages in real time. Text is processed in transit and not retained beyond the active event session.
  • Authentication providers for Sign in with Google and related account services.
  • Web hosting providers for the trymia.app website.
  • Email service providers for transactional emails and team notifications.

We continuously evaluate our service providers for security, privacy, and reliability. If you have specific questions about our processing practices, contact us at contact@trymia.app.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you, or to object to certain processing.

  • In the mobile app, you can permanently delete your account at any time via Settings → Delete Account. Upon confirmation, we immediately delete your profile, preferences, saved events, and authentication records from our systems. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.
  • For pilot applications, email us at contact@trymia.app and we will respond promptly.
  • If you are in the EU/EEA or UK, our legal basis for processing is your consent (for app accounts and pilot applications) and our legitimate interest in evaluating prospective partners and operating the service.

Data retention

  • Pilot applications are retained as long as needed to evaluate them and, if accepted, to operate the pilot.
  • Mobile app account data is retained until you delete your account via Settings → Delete Account, at which point it is immediately and permanently removed.
  • Event audio is never retained — it is processed in transit only.
  • Anonymized aggregate analytics (page view counts, event category popularity) may be retained indefinitely for product improvement.

You can request deletion of your application or account data at any time. We will comply within 30 days unless we are legally required to keep specific information.

What we do not do

  • We do not collect or store recordings of any audio captured during MIA-enabled events.
  • We do not track your activity across other apps or websites.
  • We do not use third-party advertising or analytics SDKs.
  • We do not sell your personal information to anyone.
  • We do not share your data with insurance companies, employers, or government agencies except as required by valid legal process.

Children's privacy

MIA is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at contact@trymia.app and we will delete it.

Security

We use industry-standard safeguards including TLS in transit, encryption at rest, access controls, and least-privilege keys for our database. No system is perfectly secure; we will notify affected individuals as required by law in the event of a breach.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page when our practices change and revise the “Last updated” date above. Material changes will be announced to pilot partners directly and to mobile app users via in-app notification.
